With the price considerable price drop on the D200 due to new models is this now an excellent buy??

I am looking at a Nikon dslr but do not require all the features of the new nikons,( d90 d300) or will not use them. The D200 seems to have everything I am looking for.

While there are a few new and great improvements in the D300 I can not imagine such tremendous improvement that would convince me to upgrade from my D200. I am very happy with my D200 and feel that it does more than I will ever need in a digital camera. I suggest that you go with the D200 and use the money saved on additional lens. The D200 is an excellent camera... but if it's used, I'd tell you to buy the Nikon D300. The D90 is in another league, but if you are looking to the D200 and not the D80, it must be because of something... right? Maybe weathersealed, magnesium body, or whatever... but the D300 is the answer if you NEED those things, and if (only if) the Nikon D200 is used. If not... the D200 is a perfectly capable camera, as well as the competition.

I use Nikon at work, but personally... I use Pentax. I'd tell you to go for the Pentax K20, which is the one I'm using right now, but... the D200, and D300 are also excellent cameras. You cannot go wrong with those.

Alan.
