continuous frame shooting

My first digital camera, the Nikon D300. Very happy with it, however, I shoot a great deal of sports and outdoor activities, and can not seem to get the camera to shoot several frames in one depression of the shutter release. Especially for action shots, when I shoot now, it focuses, shoots one shot, then I have to release and focus again before it shoots. What settings do I need to adjust to shoot several frames with one depression of the shutter release? I've found "frames per second" , have it set at 4, but still nothing happens when I shoot. Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi there,
On the top left of the camera is the mode dial, and you should be able to turn this to the CL logo, which is continuous shooting. To turn it you have to hold down the lock release pin to the left of the dial.

I realize this was probably a no brainer to you and everyone else, but as this is my first digital and nothing like my film camera, it was frustrating not being able to figure it out quickly. So with that, and your help, I can't say thank you enough, but will go with this......THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!

No problem! I actually had to take a look at the specs to answer that one. :) The more complex a camera, the weirder the places these settings are sometimes.
