Why does my shutter take so long when I use pop up flash indoors

Nikon D300 the shutter lag time is very slow when using pop-up flash indoors therefore I miss the shot. I should not miss any shots with this $$$ camera.

Sounds like a design issue.

Digital SLRs don't have a shutter lag, so I'd say what you're dealing with is flash cycle charge times which are very slow indeed.

I went thru the menu options (there are so many) & changed some settings and it seems to work fine. I don't know how to use a lot of the options yet, but I will learn them eventually. I hate using flash but sometimes it's a necessary evil. Thanks everyone.

That will happen due to your setting flash sync. and picture file processing and the most cause is which is the battery you using.

I did go thru the menus on the flash & change the flash sync eariler, and that did make it faster. I also turned off red eye reduction and that was even better. Now everyone has red eye & I have to go thru & get rid of all those red eyes. Pain. You would think that a camera that costs that much would be hassale-free. I guess if I could afford a $2000 lens I wouldn't have to worry about all that. I will get one someday!! I did get a 50mm f/1.8 and that has been a huge help indoors. Love that lens. Thanks everyone!! I am learning!
