Frankly, I think that going to your local photo printer is still the best option. I used to be firmly into the "do it yourself with your printer" camp, but then I took a hard look at the cost of ink, paper, wear and tear on my ink jet, and the probably durability of the pictures. In my mind, it became a much better value to just bring your SD card to the photo printer and have them print them. And most allow you do upload them and order prints on line.

Just to add to that, if you're going to do it yourself, invest in an Epson photo printer, for example the 1400, they definitely make the best ones. Paper and ink does run a lot of money, but its an investment, it may take a while for the printer and add-ons to pay themselves off, but eventually they will. I print a lot of photos for professional photographers and myself, and if you're enlarging photos to 8 x 10, and printing off hundreds of photos, definitely go with the do it yourself, Epson, method. Hope this helps.

Well, your mileage may vary, Aditya. Unfortunately, I don't agree that long term home printing makes financial sense. You'd have to show me the hard core numbers to prove that one.

Although I do agree that if you do take the home plunge, the Epson Photo printers are by and large the best ones going, followed by Canon.
