I have a Nikon D50 that when I try to use the remote control, it won't work over one time; it keeps turning off.

It won't stay on remote control. When you put the remote control icon on the screen, after about a minute or two, it shuts off.

I'd check your device batteries, the D50's firmware - if there's an update, download and install it, and when you change your settings for the remote, there are two settings you can use, one for long term shutter where you can set the amount of time, and snap shutter where it goes off instantly when you hit the button. You may have it setup incorrectly.
