How can I date-stamp photos with my Nikon D50?

I've read the manual, and I've set date and time features, but my photos do not show datestamps, and I really want them.

Hi there,
Do you mean that you want the printed photos to be date stamped? If so I'm pretty sure it has to be set in your photo software, not in your camera. Are you using editing software? If so, explore the Options menus a little and check out the Print Options, you might be able to find something to let you print time and date.

I was hoping to find an in-camera date-stamp option (as the pocket HP digitals have), but apparently the DSLRs - and in particular NIKON - just don't offer that option internally). I did find a couple of software options that will add the date without compromising any of the photo. I opted for a $25 number called BetterJPEG, which so far has seemed to do the trick. The software that came with the Nikon D50 is now loaded, but at first glance didn't seem to address my needs. Thanks for getting back, though, Brenda.

Garry, I think you meant to ask GrandmaCamel as she's the one who found it, but I'm assuming she got it here.

Thank you to all who answered. Brenda is correct on the location for BetterJPEG, and deserves the points - primarily for reminding me that Nikon also included software!

I'm considering purchasing the Nikon D40 but I also love the date stamp feature on my current point and shoot. When you are talking about using editing software to get the date stamp I am assuming this is only for use when you print pictures on your own home printer? What about if I take my pictures into the camera store to have them printed? Can someone help me out with how this software works? Thanks!

Yes, you can print date/time on your photos on your printer. But when you take your pictures to have Costco or other stores print them for you, you will not see the date/ time printed on your photos.

The question is what software allows you to permanently stamped date/time on your photos when you have Costco print them for you the date/time appear on the your photos?
