I have a D70 with 18-75 z00m and a 75-300 zoom I am considering buying a 600mm fixed power lens, would this be worth the expence?

It depends how much you're going to you use it. This size lens esp. w/ a fast aperture like F4 is going to run you some serious bucks. This lens would work well with wildlife and small birds. If money is no object go for it. With a digital SLR camera lenses usually multiply by a 1.5 factor. So if you buy a 400mm lens it really comes out to the 600mm you are looking for and may be more affordable. The bottom line is that you want to justify the cost. If this lens is going to just sit in your closet most of the year ,I'd say forget it. Another option is going for the off brand like Tamron, Tokina, or Sigma that fits your camera mount. I got a Tokina AF 300mm, F4.0 fixed aperture lens that works well for me and my budget.
