How good will my slr lenses work on the D80? (I have 2 Sigma AF lenses)

I got the lenses with my F65, details: Sigma (AF & MF) 28-80mm, F3.5-5.6 and a Sigma 100-300mm F4.5-6.7 DL

The autofocus one will not be able to work as such because it is similar to AFS type of lenses.
You probably will have less problem with the manual focus lens.

D60 might be a better match.

The guys at the camera shop said it should work and the AF worked on my friends D200?

Mounting is not a problem, as Nikon F mount is a standard feature.

For focusing. traditional Nikon body has a built in motor and focusing is done through a pin that fits into a hole in the lens.
Take a look at the lens and see if the hole is there. That's the best way to confirm whether it will work with D80.

F65 takes on AF-S lens. see Thom Hogan's report If your Sigma works on F65, it is possible that it has a built in motor which D80 is not able to operate.
Problem is only you can tell because you might have bought a Sigma lens without a built in motor. So check for the hole in the lens and see if it is there.
