Looking for first digital SLR to shoot daughter in basketball, vacations family by pool. Is D80 for $939, with two Nikon VR lenses 24-200 and 70-300

New to SLR, looking for quality camera with some staying power, able to take action shots at b-ball games , dog chasing buzzards away from pool in yard family shot , vacations while saving some money.

Not a bad price, but most are sticking with the D60 still. Full frame and faster. One thing about DSLRs is that you really are buying a system. Bodies will come and go, but the glass will stick with you and Nikon makes some of the best.

Thanks! Took advice and went with D60 and got 2 VR lenses 18-55mm and 55-200mm for $640! Hopefully I did good. Just in time for our trip to Spain!!

Outstanding, Sooner! Now go one step further. Get 1A Skylight filters for your lenses. Reason being? Insurance. They will take any impact damage and spare your lens. I can't tell you many times I have thrashed a 1A filter and saved my camera lens. It's well worth the $20 or so each, believe me.

A cousin wanting to buy D80 was impressed with live histogram function in my z712. Wants to know if D80 has this function in live view. Has it?

It has a histogram, but sadly, not in live view that I can see.
