Canon SX10is costs about $100 more, has greater zoom (20X vs 15X), has closer focus in macro (0 cm vs 1 cm), has a faster lens (f2.8 vs f3.5), has a faster shutter (1/3200 sec vs 1/2000 sec), has a hot shoe for external flash, has a flip and twist LCD (great for overhead and ground level shots!), is heavier (21 oz vs 13 oz), has a smaller LCD (2.5" vs 3.0").
The Nikon L100 will take 3MP shots at 13 fps up to 30 pics - great for sports (if you don't mind being limited to about 5 X 7 prints).
Lastly, I looked at the official Nikon website and they list the L100 as using 4 AA batteries, either alkaline or lithium, but they do NOT list NiMH. I don't know if that means it won't work on NiMH or they just left it off. You wouldn't think they would make a mistake on their own website!!!
Unless you really need the 13fps burst speed capability (and assuming you can come up with the extra $100), I would advise getting the Canon SX10is as an overall better buy. I do have to admit my bias in that I have not been impressed with Nikon P&S cameras (whereas their dSLR's are fantastic).

Just for a second opinion, I agree with Larry, I like the SX10IS a bit more than the L100. The higher zoom, plus the additional contrast and color you get through the superior Canon processor seem to put the Canon a bit above the Nikon.
