My l20 has horrible sound quality. My friend's l20 sounds better. Could we have a faulty camera or is this a common problem with this camera?

Our previous Coolpix (an earlier version) had fantastic sound and picture/video quality. When a friend broke that camera we bought the l20. The sound is very garbled. We have friends who bought the same camera and their sound quality is not nearly as bad. We've mad sure not to place fingers over the microphone hole but no improvement. Could this be a faulty microphone in camera?

What you may want to do is reset the camera and download and install any available firmware updates. It could just be a corrupted loading of the firmware. Outside of that, I'd put the camera in for repair while the warranty is still good.

Thanks..after talking to our friends with the same camera they noticed that when making a video and there sound is especially distorted when the camera is pointing towards the sound source. Perhaps the microphone is just not good and results in distorted booming sound. Also, according to the Nikon site there is no firmware update for the coolpix L20. We are going to return the camera and try to upgrade to something more suitable for our needs.
