What I recommend is getting a Quikpod. Great for not only self-portraits that look like someone else took them, but also group shots that let you stay in the picture.
As for what settings to put it on, self timer. It's the first button to the right of the viewfinder (after the diopter adjustment dial). Check page 5 and page 29 of your manual.
The self-timer/remote control lamp lights for about 10 seconds, then starts blinking. After blinking for about 2 seconds, the picture is taken.
