Cannot transfer images from camera to computer

I cannot transfer images from my camera (Olympus D-540 zoom) to my computer. My USB cable is somewhat worn where it connects to camera.
Could this be causing my problem?

Sure. A loose connection can be as bad as a broken one. My recommendation is you get a USB memory card reader and simply take your card out and plug it in. The PC will read it as a drive and it's a simple drag and drop to get your pictures onto the PC for editing and printing. Much better than trying to trouble shoot driver issues.

Or, get a new USB cable.

You can got that way, sure. But I'm serious about a USB Card reader. Much easier and more consistent. Connect it. Toss in your card. Drag and drop the files. Couldn't be easier.

Samantha. We get this often. Was it dropped recently? Essentially, it may have gone out of alignment off the rails slightly. Cycling the camera on/off several times can sometimes get the lens to work it's way back into alignment.

If your camera is out of warranty, the one thing you can try is to If you gently, and I do mean GENTLY push against the lens with the PALM of your hand as you turn it on, it may cause it to depress back into the camera. If that doesn't work, and you can't reset it or turn it on/off several times, then you may have to send it in for a repair estimate.

But understand that the average cost of a camera repair is around $180. As such, it may cost more to repair than it is really worth. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.
