How is the color on pictures from this camera

I may be purchasing this camera but keep reading about having to make adjustments to just get it right. I have had a few point and shoot camera those being Canon and Olympus in 8 and 10 megapixels. I am a Mom and just want to take nice shots, would this be a good camera or should I look at the Nikon D40x?

There's a great picture taken here which shows a picture of a 64 count box of Crayola crayons. You can compare the two cameras side by side. In my view, the colors of the E510 are duller. Darker. Whereas the colors with the D40x tend to be brighter, more vivid. They "pop" under the light. The E510 colors are just lifeless.

I suspect this is where the advantage of having Nikkor glass comes in.

Thanks for the info as I am having second thoughts about this camera. I have been doing some homework on the Nikon D40x and also the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi and am starting to narrow it down between these 2 now. An info on the Canon would be helpful too. Once again thanks. :)

Well frankly, it's a toss-up. Either works for me. Though I believe the Rebel has the edge in MP by 2.

Once again thanks. I think the Canon is going to win out.
