how can you speed up photos taken using the LCD mode and NOT the viewfinder mode?? seems slow..

on the olympus e volt 420 when you use the LCD screen mode to snap , in place of the Viewfinder mode to snap . there is shutter lag. how can you avoid it? unlike a P and S ,due to the mirror lock up on DSLR 's you can not have the view finder on as the same time as the LCD screen when in a shooting mode. - it must be either/ or- and the viewfindwer shutter mode is instanteous, not so the LCD mode , due to the set up of the photo and photo recognition mechanisms w/i the e 420 - good for stationary shots, but NOT action..due to the shutter lag time. anyone with a good working knowledge of this phenomena, the help would be appreciated. Would like to use the LCD shooting ( away from the body)BUT the delay is most disconcerting. is there a way around this???hal5141

Hal,

The viewfinder will only work in auto-focus mode, if I'm not mistaken. If so, then you'll have similar issues with shutter lag as those in regular point and shoot cameras. The best way around this is to push your shutter-button down half way to lock the focus and then push completely down when you're ready to take the shot. Good luck and happy shooting.

Actually in live view, even if you push the shutter down half way it doesn't work because the camera will focus only once the shutter is clicked... That's why it seems to take a long time.

Instead, use the focus lock memo button... its the one you use when you use spot metering. This will allow you to focus before clicking the shutter. That's how it is with my E-3.

In any case Live View is still pretty slow across all manufacturers...
