Tim,
Your older Olympus uses an OM type mount for the lenses. The Olympus E420 uses E-system specific four thirds lens types, so your lenses will not work directly with the camera.
You can purchase an adapter for the camera and lens that allows you to use Zuiko, OM lenses. This adapter does not allow you to use all the functions though (no autofocus, spot metering does not work properly, and others). With the adapter, the image angle is equivalent to a 35mm camera.
Look over the adapter's manual for a full rundown of it. Tamron lenses are not listed in the compatible lens types; sorry. Good luck and happy shooting.
