I'm looking to buy either Olympus SP 565 UZ, Panasonic FZ28 or the Nikon P. What is the best camera?

Using DP Review side by side facility, I have created a table listing the detail features of the three cameras. see the results

6 or more features stand out, if you want to see the differences :

a. RAW : if you intend to shoot RAW, now or in the future, only SP565 UZ and FZ28 let you do it.
b. Lens : 560 UZ wins in having a better zoom lens : 26mm wide angle and 520mm tele.
c. External flash : 560 UZ has a hot shoe. So you can add a more powerful external flash if you need it.
d. Movie clips : at standard 30 fps, FZ28 does it at 1280 x 720 while 565 UZ does it at 640 x 480
e. Memory cards : 560UZ uses xD picture card. If you prefer the more popular SD card, FZ28 has it.
f. Battery : 560 UZ uses AA size battery. If you feel more comfortable with Lithium ions, go for FZ 28.

So judging from the above, it's more or less a tie between 565 UZ and FZ 28, while you should not count Nikon P6000 out because it has GPS capability that records the location where you take the picture, while the WiredLan function lets you download 2 gig of your pictures to Nikon's myPicture Town, something that is not available in both FZ28 and 565 UZ.

If you don't need RAW, like most of the average users, Nikon P6000 probably offers more in terms of GPS and WiredLan.
On the other hand, if you need RAW and more zoom power, 565UZ probably beats the other two.

I am a long time user of Olympus cameras in the last 40 years. starting from the half frame SLRs through C3000Z until today.
Because of that probably it would be more fair if I refer you to two detailed hands on review written by Steves digicam.

You can find the report if you click Panasonic FZ28 and Olympus SP-560UZ .

SP-565UZ is slightly better than SP 560UZ but there is no write up under Steves digicam. The write ups are very well done and you would find all the answers to your question with a bit of time and patience.

Canon Powershot SX10 IS should not be ruled out.

Anthony,
There is no intention to rule out any camera, but in this case, we probably have to limit ourselves to the models mentioned in the question.

NikonP is best in my book. Most Police Departments use Nikon. Not only for the GPS and Lan, but the overall detail recorded per shot in most every lighting situation. If you think you may need a photo that passes the "court test" then Nikon is a wiiner.
