Outdoor photo's of birds, scenery

I am new to digital photography but have been looking for a camera to use for a variety of things, indoor shots of family and outdoor shots for hiking (birds, scenary, etc). For my price range I'm wondering if either the SP-565 UZ or the Canon Powershot SX110 IS would do the job. ANy suggestions would be appreciated.

Both would work fine, but the SX110IS has Canon's new DIGIC IV processor which is doing a fantastic job in getting stunning images and processing the massive amount of megapixel information coming through the CCD.

Thanks. That definitely helps. If you don't mind my asking, how would you grade the zoom factor compare?

I'm not sure I follow you. Are you talking about lens quality? Speed of the zoom? Speed of the lens at the extreme ends of the focal length? Not reaqlly sure what "zoom factor compare" really means.

Sorry. The Sp-565 has a 20x zoom and the SX110IS is 10x optical. Obviously the Sp-565 can zoom in on subjects twice as far (i.e. birds, athletic events, etc). With this factor Im just wondering which woud be the better pick...all things considered. THanks.

Oh, agree, Bob. But with twice the zoom comes twice the camera shake and slower speed of the lens at the extreme end. If you have a steady hand and can shoot around the slower lens speed, then sure, the SP565 is a good choice. I shot the SP560 (18x) for awhile and really enjoyed it.

I appreciate the input. I'm still a little undecided though. Both sound great. While the SX110IS is a little cheaper and has great features I'm leaning towards the SP-565, mainly because of the zoom capability. Unless you or anyone has additional input to offer. I should decide this weekend though. I'm still wondering if the SX110 would be sufficient (zoom capabilities). Afterall, I'm not a pro...just, like anyone, want the best for the dollar.

So I'm wondering...has anyone handled the SP-565? WOuld like some input on this camera, good or bad. Would be interested in comparing these 2 above, if any one has done that. Thanks
