Summer Camp Quality???

I work at a summer camp and need a camera with the ability to capture great pictures in many many different settings, including pictures of kids, outdoors, at night and on a water front. I am in charge of the yearbook and I need to be able to capture quality pictures. Is the Olympus Sp-560 the right camera?

I think that this is one of your better choices, I would also take a look at the Canon S5 and the Sony H9, which are more expensive, but tend to produce better picture quality. The H9 also has a ton of features (like the detachable multi-angle screen and burst mode), plus nightshot mode which can help with your night photos because I doubt you'll take close up shots to use the flash. The S5 has great daylight pictures and is probably the best in terms of contrast. If you go with the SP560 you won't be disappointed, but I also think considering upgrading for a higher price should be considered. Hope this helps.

At the prices of the S5 and H9, I'd be looking for a Digital Rebel XT for about the same price. The MP won't be as great, but for year book photos, it'll be ideal. Don't get caught up in the megapixel arms race. More isn't necessarily better.

So think practical. The SP560 is a great camera. I have one. But if you do your shopping, you can probably find a Digital Rebel XT with a decent lens for not that much more.

I just joined my yearbook staff and I am looking to take off the hook yearbook quality photographs with a variety of different backgrounds and settings. I want to be able to put the best pictures in this yearbook, but I am unsure which camera would get the job done. I need to be able to take action shots, shots in dim school lighting, close-ups of the student body and night photographs for some of the sporting events. Any idea what camera would best suit me?
