Why can't I take a panoramic picture, when I HAVE inserted the memory card?

Camera= Olympus FE-230
I have inserted the memory card and am on the correct scene which is the only thing the manual specifies

Hi Charlie,

Is your memory card an Olympus-branded xD card?

From Olympus's FAQ for the FE-230:

"Can I use non-Olympus brand xD-Picture Card™ media in the FE-230?

The FE-230 will accept third-party xD-Picture Card media. However, Olympus brand xD-Picture Card media are required to use the [PANORAMA] camera function."

Yeah, it's unfortunate and kind of silly that Olympus should put that sort of restriction on it, IMO, but what can you do? (Aside from buy from a different corporation in the future ;])
