Lost pictures when transferring to computer

I currently have my second Olympus stylus 840 and have run into this problem on two different cards to include a 2G XD card. When I plug the card into the card reader sometimes the computer finds no pictures. When I put the card back into the camera usually there are not there for the camera either. Since it has happened with two cameras of the same model, and on two different cards I am suspecting a Windows Vista issue? Is it possible that the 2G card is too large? Any advice would be appreciated.

The specs say that the camera can take up to 2GB, so it can't really be too big. More likely the card got corrupted. This could be due to Vista, but highly doubtful. Any memory card can fail or become corrupted. And when you're on vacation the last thing you want is to lose the opportunity to take pictures until you can recover that media card with a software utility. If your card goes bad, swapping another one for it at that moment is of advantage so you can keep taking pics. Then, later when you're in front of your PC, you can use a utility like "F-Recovery" to get back your pictures and recover your card.

What I would also recommend is to go to the Olympus site and see if there's a firmware update. The firmware for the camera is only as current as the day the camera was manufactured. There's bound to be an update which addresses certain bugs or issues that have cropped up since.

Thanks, I downloaded a firmware update and used my computer to format the card. I had the same experience with more than one card so I hope the firmware update solves it.

Well, if it's more than one card, then that would definitely point to the camera. If the firmware update doesn't fix it, then it may need repair.
