I am looking at a teleconverter for my FZ20 when i fit it will i have optical zoom from 2*-22*? What are the downsides of teleconverters

Specifically I am wondering if teleconverters still allow you to zoom in and out, does the picture quality suffer, and how easy are they to use?

Any supplementary lens will reduce the quality of the image to a greater or lessor extent. Buy the best you can afford and make sure it is multicoated. It will also reduce the aperture of the prime lens by the amount of magnification. I.E a x2 converter will make a F4 into an F8. If you are only producing prints up to A4 size go for it, in practice you will notice little difference. Exactly the same limitations apply when used with a zoom lens.
