I searched for Leica (V-LUX 1) and got the Panasonic Lumix. I hear that the Leica is based on the DMC-FZ50. Any comments besides price? Thanks!

You're right, the V-LUX 1 is based on the FZ50. Has the same specifications (CCD, megapixels, controls, etc.) However, Leica has added their own touch to the image quality/ processing, and the result is a really good camera. The FZ50 is fantastic anyhow, and personally I really like Leica's spin on it. Very clear pictures in almost any setting, very quick operation.
