Hi Cathe,

You can do this with pretty much any digital camera. All you need to do is take the picture, transfer it from the camera to the computer via the included USB cable, and resize it to an appropriate size for the internet (usually about 640 x 480 pixels). Most cameras come with proprietary software, but I'd recommend using a less bloated freeware program like Google's Picasa or irfanview. You can then upload the photos to a free photo hosting solution like imageshack or photobucket.

Now, as to which camera you should get... what sort of merchandise are you shooting? Do you need to do close ups, or are you generally selling larger items? What's your price range for the camera?

I have small stuff, nothing tiny, but want to have close up capacity to show trademarks and artist signature. Am looking for for camera under $200, easy to operate. Any ideas??

What is a USB cable and how does it hook to the computer. Are Picasa, irganvanview, imageshake or photobucket complicated. I'm really new at this as you can tell.

A USB cable is the standard kind of cable used with digital cameras and a variety of other devices. The one you'll be using with your camera will most likely look like this. The bigger end plugs into your computer, and the smaller end plugs into the camera.

All of the sites and programs I listed above are fairly easy to navigate. You shouldn't have much trouble.

As far as cameras under $200, there's really only one I can recommend--the Panasonic LZ5. It's got a nice 6 megapixel sensor, a 6x optical zoom, and it can focus on objects as close as 5cm from the lens. It's pretty user-friendly, and you shouldn't have much trouble figuring out how to work it. To be honest, though, the sub-$200 range is kind of the shallow end of the digital pool. If you can spend another $30 or so, you'll get slightly better cameras like the Panasonic FX01 and FX3, which have similar specs but better build quality, better LCDs, etc.

Hope this helps!

Great information, seems to really know the right information. I have the same needs, I have many things to get pictures of, and listed on e-bay. I would buy a more expensive camera, and hope to use it for other things as well. I almost got the Kodak Easy Share Z612, but I read the picture quality was not as good as possibly other ones. I know from experience, the better the picture the better the bidding gets. Hope to get the right camera for small things, like hot wheels, and large things like cars.
