The powershot, hands down. the SD990 has the new, larger, DIGIC IV processor and it's results really show.

The DIGIC series of processors are the heart of the Canon system. It processes all the information coming into the chip and writes it to your memory card. The IV series is the latest, which incorporates much of the advantages that the SLR lines enjoy. It uses less power, and is faster than it’s competitors. It also has improved noise reduction, and live face detection.

As for comparing the G10 with the SD990. That depends. The G10 is a popular choice with professional photographers as a backup camera for it’s manual capabilities. It’s more than a point and shoot camera. But to be honest, I think that the 14MP is overkill for a snapshot style camera. Then again, the SD990 is the same overkill. You won’t even notice that extra 4-6MP until you hit print sizes of 11x14 or above. But if you’re a DSLR user looking for a pocket option, the G10 is a good choice.

BTW just read a review from Endgadget that the FX150 is the camera higher end casual photographers have been waiting for. Time will tell.. tinyurl.com/7j2wtf – the hit it takes is in low light where where the optical IS can’t keep up with camera shake and noise comes to the party at ISOs above 800 – fairly typical for most point and shoots.
