Message says "Turn camera off and then on again"

Lumix DMC LZ5 Won't focus and take pictures. Camera seems to search for focus before error message "Turn camera off and then on again". Lens won't retract back and close.

I'd try resetting the camera and seeing if the website has a firmware update. Download and install it. Then, I'd check your batteries contacts to make sure that they aren't smudged with dirt/dust. A quick cleaning with a pencil eraser can get rid of the yuck.

Lastly, it may be that your lens has gotten out of alignment. This can easily happen if you've dropped it. You can cycle it on/off several times to see if the camera len s will work it's way back into alignment, but do NOT force it. If it doesn't work, then get it to Panasonic quickly while it's still under warranty.
