Manual focus with the Panasonic FZ50 is a problem.

How does one get good manual focus shots with the Panasonic FZ50? Mine turn out blurry no matter how clear they look in the magnified viewfinder image. The AF settings are clean and clear, except for birds. The manual focus is important when birds are in trees behind folage or twigs. Sometimes the spot focus will work of you can see enough of the bird to get the focus set in AF mode.

If you have correctly focused on the subject, then the out of focus picture is probably due to camera shake.

This shake comes naturally with a lot of people. To get good sharp pictures, when the button is depressed, make sure all other parts of the body ' freeze ' temporarily. Holding your breath helps.

If you find it difficult, a tripod will be invaluable, particularly at extreme zoom of 300mm and above.

The other point is if you cannot see enough of the bird to focus, set the aperture to the smallest and focus on the nearest object, the leaf or the branch, lock the focus and slowly swing the camera back to the position of the bird, and wait for the right moment to release the shutter.

Practice makes perfect. After some time, you will be OK.

I too have problems with manual focus at infinity (up to 1 mile away) I can not get the camera to come to a sharp focus in the viewfinder no matter what I do and the images seem blured. I have tried a heavy tripod and a remote release but still bird feathers are not resolved. Is there a probem with this camera?
