Can the firmware in this camera be upgraded after purchase? Does Panasonic have a history of upgrading the firmware for cameras of this capability??

Or does Panasonic 'freeze' the camera after manufacture (presumably firmware upgrades create greater picture quality, in addition to fixing operating bugs)

no the firmware is fixed
Panasonic only upgrades its firmware when it realeases new models
current firmware is lumix engine 3

i know panasonic upgrades firmware for some of its digital camers models -- eg Panasonic has just released a new firmware update, v2.0, for the DMC-L1 DSLR camera --- however i do not know if the Lumix FZ50 can be upgraded -- maybe the answer is that for all LUMIX cameras firmware is fixed??? but for other Panasonic models, form tha above, this is not the case ..

Hello there. I've just found an article on how to upgrade the firmware on one of these beauties. It had instructions on how to check your current Firmware version and on how to upgrade!! I followed the instructions and it did indeed show me the current version number. The instructions were for version 1.07 but alas my camera already has 1.09, if you can upgrade then surely this question is not fully answered. The document mentioned something about downloading the software from HP. I haven't found anything on the Hp site yet. Any info would be of help. The plot thickens. Not sure if this is just rubbish now I've read a few other comments lol.

Will investigate further!!

the firmware is not fixed. 1.09 is the latest and also you can find this where the procedure is in Dave m link.

Is this 1.09 firmware available for download? And will updating a grey market Japanese menu camera to this "switch" it to English/US specs?
