When I shut the FZ-50 off I see a yellow triangle with an explanation mark - what is this and how can I remove it?

I tried to check what version firmware I had and afterwards I noticed the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark and even pulling the battery does not make it go away. Did I ruin my camera?

Sounds to me like your firmware has frozen. When you removed the battery, how long did you remove it for? I'd leave it out overnight to see if that helps as it takes time for the system charge to deplete. Leaving it on with the batteries in until they die may also help. If you can get to the menu, try resetting the camera. That'll reload the firmware. And try updating the firmware anyway as if the firmware is the same, it'll merely tell you. Absent that, you may been to send it in for servicing.

I ran into the same problem. Go to the following website and click on "FZ50-Firmware" on the left side of the page. There are instructions on how to 'reset' it. I did the reset and the yellow triangle no longer appears. Now I have decided to "leave well enough alone" and go out and take more photos.
