any camera with similar specification for comparison?

I am looking for a compact camera with autofocus as well as manual control and which runs on a "AA" batteries. HD video is a plus. Reviews about the LZ10 always comment on it "slowness". So I want to look at other brands with the same specs. Thanks

I'm not sure what price you're getting on the camera, but take a look at the Canon A series. It's a much better camera, better picture quality. Canon also makes good lower end cameras, so I think this would be ideal for the type of camera you're getting. Here's a link to all of the Canon cameras:

Hope this helps.

canon a series do not have wide angled lens. i am looking for a digicam with the same spec as lz 10, namely, wide angled lens, with options of manual and auto focus, compact form, running on "AA" batteries. thank you aditya d.

Well, to begin, there are not very many digital cameras that run on AA batteries. But, the only other camera that has the specs you're looking for would be the Nikon P50. The rest of the cameras either don't have AA batteries or don't have wide angle lenses. In terms of the camera, I think the Nikon P50 is much better than the LZ10, all features and picture quality into account.

thank you aditya d, you have been very helpful. unfortunately, the p50 does not have image stabilization unlike the lz10. while reading about the p50, i came across p60 which in turn does not have a wide angle lens. Maybe there is no other currently available camera matching the lz10 specs. based on reviews, the lz10 is slow and the image quality is not so good. but on paper, based on specs, the lz10 is what i have been looking for. if ever in the future you come across similarly specd camera, please post it. thank you very much.

If I ever come across one, I will for sure post it here. The only real problem is the limitations of the AA, because most cameras run on Lithium Ion technology. I could give you a huge list of cameras if you wanted to use the Lithium Ion batteries, but without that your options are very limited.

Aditya D, if i remove the AA battery requirement, what cameras do you suggest? Qualities are compact form with wide angled lens, options of manual controls and auto focus, image stabilization, 2.5 inch or bigger lcd, hd photo and video and uses sd cards as storage. All of the compact cameras with wide angled lens that i have read are just autofocus and no option for manual controls. Those with manual controls are big cameras and i prefer the compact ones. Thank you very much.

Try taking a look at the Nikon P80, I'm not sure if this is too bulky, but let me know, if it is, I'll find something smaller.

Thanks Boney. I looked at the nikon s550 spec and it does not have a wide angled lens. Its image stabilization is electronic and not optical. So far I have not yet encountered a camera with same spec as the LZ10, which namely are compact camera form with built in wide angled lens, auto focuc with manual options, optical image stabilization and uses sd card.

Panasonic emailed me this week in response to a question about the LZ8 (and LZ10?). They said, "The 2009 line is in the process of being released at some point this month." I'm considering the LZ10 and will wait to see if the 2009 version has improved speed.
