Well i just got a A710 IS and its awesome for the price it comes for. It has good features, all that you can understand easily and use them as well. IS provides a very good snap click on the move. The camera is robust, although it is not slim, but it has a good look with nice zoom upto 24x(optical*digital).

Well if you are looking for Zoom, then surely TZ1 has 10x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom (that makes 40x goes upto 50x with extended optical zoom), which is far more than A710IS. Although, i dont have any dislike for Panasonic, but i rely more on Canon and Nikon for digital cameras. Moreover, TZ1 is for 5 mega pixel(effective) but A710IS is for 7.1. So, even if you have a better zoom but bad resolution, you wont be able to get a clear picture with higher zoom.
Some details, for you to compare, besides Zoom, i would also recommend to see other features as well so you get the worth for the money you spent.
