The Lumix TZ1 or the Kodak C875? Which is better?

I'm trying to decide between a Lumix TZ1 and a Kodak C875. They are both similar in price and both have high optical zoom with the ability to zoom during movie mode, which is very important to me. It also appears that kodak would be more user friendly with better software. And the kodak is a bit smaller, which is good. I wish they had optical viewfinders. On my old canon elph it was very hard to see anything on the lcd in a dark night setting. You had to use the optical viewfinder to see your subject. Has this problem been improved on in the last few years? They both have pros and cons. I'm really tempted by the 10x optical zoom on the tz1, but then I like that the kodak might be simpler to use and it's a little smaller. Any advise?

Hi,
Here's a link that compares the two cameras side-by-side for an easier comparison of the two.

I must admit I have never used a Kodak, but I have had a Lumix before, the FZ5, which was great and had amazing image quality. Personally I prefer a longer zoom because it gives you so much more versatility and the TZ1 has a larger sensor which will give you better image quality. The Kodak may have 8MP but with a smaller sensor the image quality won't be any better than on a camera with the TZ1's 5MP with its larger sensor.

A key thing here is IS (image stabilisation). The TZ1 has it and the Kodak doesn't. IS really does make such a difference, especially with a longer focal length.

Don't be put off by the Lumix being a little more complicated. You can start off using all the auto functions and then start incorporating little features bit by bit. You don't have to use them but it's always nice to know they're there for when you are ready to play around.

I helps this helps a bit and good luck with your decision making.

We own a Tz1 and the picture quality is excellent. In sunny conditions you can brighten the LCD screen by 40% with the push of a button. I would go with Panasonic, hands down a better camera. The 10X zoom is really cool.
