Will the pentax *ist DL provide good pictures?

I have used several digital cameras and mainly use cannon. I have a kennel and sale really small yorkies and shih tzu's. I also am planning to use it for family pictures.

The best way to judge this is to take a look at the opinions of people who own this camera already.

The User Reviews on this page seems to indicate that the Pentax *ist DL generally takes "wonderful" photos.

In my opinion though, you should take a look at a newer Pentax SLR. The *ist DL is great, but isn't widely available anymore. The Pentax K100D is a more up to date SLR that is also very good for entry-level users, and has so-far garnered positive reviews. Take a look!

What other camera would you recommend? I was also looking at the Samsung pro or the new sony that is out.

The Sansung Pro is the Same camera as the pentax K110D.
and K110D is the *ist DL with 11 focus point ( DL have only 3 focus point)
K100D is K110D with SR ( shake reduction )

The Sony Alpha is good camera, but you can't compare the price between the Sony Alpha and the Pentax K100D, K100D price around $650 average. Sony Alpha is close to $900 or more...

I have been disappointed with my camera. Results are inconsistant, with blurry pictures, washed out faces. Outdoor shots are fine, people pictures are not

The ist DL really is a great camera. I managed to purchase it with the 18-55mm lens for $325.00 (after a $200.00 rebate). I went on to purchase the 55-200mm da lens for $200.00. thats an unheard of total of $525.00 for a brand new camera and 2 lenses. Sure the lenses aren't extra fast and i probably should have purchased the autofocus 50mm instead (but I have a 55mm 1.8 manual lens from my KX). I get awesome pictures with this camera. I am glad I purchased it, and the total for this setup still cannot be beat. I only shoot in RAW and the pictures a great. The flash does take some tinkering with, but does a great job nonetheless.
