Pentax ist DS Automatic Focus won't lock in at infinity more than half the time. Any suggestions?

I haven't downloaded the firmware upgrade. Does that help?

Hi Randy,

The firmware update to version 2.0 firmware does include a substantial upgrade to the camera's autofocus capabilities: "Continuous AF mode has been added to the AF settings in the Record Mode menu."

I'm not sure how much this would affect the issue you're describing here, but it could certainly help. I'd suggest trying it, and if it doesn't help, contacting Pentax's customer support center. They can best direct you from there. Good luck!

I don't get why it would be happening half the time and not all of the time if it's a physical issue. Have you noticed any similarities between the times when it does and does not work- i.e. settings you're using, what you're photographing (how far away it actually is), the lens you're using??
