I bought the Pentax K100D so I could use my old 35mm lens (Tamron 80-210mm), but when I try to use it it flashes av?

I tried to reset the settings, but can not figure out why the lens won't work. The original lens that came with the camera works fine. Is there a certain setting I should use for my old zoom lens to work? It was my understanding that this camera was able to use the old 35mm Pentax lenses.

The lens won't work probably because the default setting is meant for the use of new digital Pentax lenses.

Manual lenses like Tamron 80-200mm needs custom setting on the aperture ring before it can function properly.

Press Manual button to go to Custom setting

a. click " setting " and select " on "
b. click " using aperture ring ", select " permitted "
c. turn " mode " dial to " a " ( manual )

If you get lost, turn to pages 106, 107 and 188 of your manual for further information.

Thanks, bukit97, I'd just obtained a K100D and an older 135-mm lens, and was baffled how to make them work together. Your answer enabled me to get started!
