Back in the 1960's, the two top lens brands were Pentax and Zeiss. Given their Limited series and the * series of lenses, like the 300mm f/2.8 A* lens, Pentax is still on top.

Every manufacturer makes cheap lenses that aren't that good. Pentax is no exception, but their cheap lenses seem to be better than, say, Canon or Nikon cheapos. But if you want decent lenses, you have to pay for the good glass. No matter what brand you use.

Believe it or not some Pentax lenses are not only sharper but they are built better than the best from Canon or Nikon.
For example, my 77mm f1.8 Pentax lens is far better than anything Canon or Nikon has.
It's sharp as a razor and built like a tank with awesome color rendition

HEAR, HEAR! re: pentax user, some good lenses knocked out by Pentax over the years esp. 85mm f2 & f1.4a*, 135 f2.5 Tak. bayonet are ones that i've used. If you need further convincing, look at pre-used prices these days, even the 135 f3.5. So, in essence, I would say, buy with confidence, unless it has been flogged to death. Added benefit, repairs if needed, still generally available.
