Hi Mrs. J,
It sounds to me like your camera is having a problem with its CCD sensor, which is the part in the camera that interprets the image and renders it in pixels. Pentax last year issued a service advisory indicating that certain models, yours included, might be susceptible to a CCD failure problem. If your camera is experiencing the same problem that they're talking about, you are eligible for a free repair. Take a look at this page on the Pentax site for more information. Good luck!
