Pretty decent little camera

(John C. - 8/27/07)

This was the first camera I'd purchased after having an Olympus D550 for a few years. It has been a very good camera with rather good image quality and reliability. It has suited my casual imaging needs very well. It's not all that great in low light, especially when compared to the A30 or Nikon P5000, but in good light it takes some good pics. I used it to digiscope the moon through an 4.5" reflector scope and it took better-than-expected shots, though with some blue fringing around the edge of the moon.
I've since upgraded to an Optio A30 and a Nikon Coolpix P5000, both of which I love for their own reasons. The A10 is not a fast performer by any means, but it is still working great. I cracked the LCD screen earlier this year and IT WAS MY FAULT. Sorry to shout, I just wanted to place the blame in the proper place. I was working on my car (emergency roadside repair) and forgot it was in my pocket... rolled over on it many times. I nearly fixed the LCD screen... at least enough to make it usable again. I did this by rubbing the blackened areas with my thumbs and dispersing the darkened crystals toward the edges of the display. I can now read the menus and see what I'm shooting fairly well and the dark patches I rubbed to the edges can now be seen through.
I treat this as my 'beater' camera for when I'm at work or when I'm going somewhere and want to have a camera 'just in case'.
On the 5-star scale I'd like to give it 3.5 stars. But since that rounds up to 4, that's what it gets. For me it has definitely been better than 'average' 3 stars.
