My A10 starts, the lens comes out and then it shuts down Help?

My Pentax A10. starts up, the lens comes out and the Logo appears it then shuts down and the lens retracts. It did get a little damp recently but not badly so. New batteries did not help.

Condensation may still be an issue though. This is a typical symptom of it. Try leaving it turned off in a bowl/bag of uncooked rice. The rice quickly sucks up the surrounding moisture. Make sure the environment is free from excess humidity, drop the wet device in a container of rice and let it sit. For a better desiccant, it'd be a good idea to store all those little silica gel packets that come in anything from shoe boxes to moisture-sensitive gadgets.

I fixed this issue by removing the front cover and putting it back on. The camera would work perfectly with the front cover off, and even when I put the front cover back on loosely. It failed when I held the cover tightly against the body of the camera. I'm not sure what was being squeezed with the cover being too tightly screwed on, but it works now.
