How to make pictures smaller?

It takes only 3 enormous photos. How can I set it to take smaller photos? Does that enable it to take more total photos? Or will it simply take only 3 smaller photos?

The camera is not designed to take just 3 photos. What probably happened was large resolution pictures were taken and there was no SD card.

You need an SD card to enable you to take more pictures because the internal memory is only about 10 meg which, as you have found out, takes only 3 large size photos.

To set the camera to record in smaller file size, set mode dial to ' P ' and turn camera on.
Press ' Menu ' button and in Menu 1, select ' Recording Pixels '. Press ' OK ' button.

You have an option of setting file size to 6M, 4M, 2M and 640K. Make your selection and press ' OK '.
If you buy a 2 gig SD card, you will be able to take 800+ photos in 2M size.

Changing the photo quality to a lower value also increases the number of photos that can be taken, but I find it not necessary.
If you like, you can take a mixture of 6M, 4M and 2M depending on the needs, but buying a 2 gig SD card is the most important consideration.
