Any chance you've locked the camera in manual focus mode? The button on the back that toggles between self timer and focus mode also has a 'protect' button (key icon) - maybe you're in that mode?
I believe also that the manual focus mode would display through the viewfinder if it's selected - you can confirm the focus mode setting there.
If not, and the lens is busted, you probably should consider a new camera - the 330GS has been around a long time, and hopefully you've owned it a long time as well!
