great for outdoors
(dennis waltke - 3/1/09)I backpack regularly on the Appalachian Trail, and also kayak and love the ocean and fishing. My camera was accidently dropped over a breakwater and bounced 12 feet on rocks and into the ocean on Sanibel Island. Other than scratches, it was fine. I washed and dried it and was back in business. I do not scuba, but do swim and snorkel. This camera is fine for that. It is acceptable in focus and sharpness, but the ruggedness is its shining glory. I especially like the ultra close 2cm macro setting. A closeup of a fern with a backlight of sun showing through showed the veins of the leaf and was in good focus, allowing for a shallow depth of field. I have a Canon Rebel XT and a Pentax K100D and they are my more serious cameras, but when outdoor action is in mind this is the camera I use. Two of my friends were so impressed that they now also have one.
