SD vs SDHC

I own a Canon EOS and it can take either SD or SDHC cards and I can view them in the camera, but... I can only upload their contents to my HP computer that runs WIN XP, if they are SD cards. The SDHC cards will not work. Any simple question, short of buying a different computer? I'm at a loss....

No I haven't. If the SDHC card fits in the computer... in the same slot as the plain old SD card, and does not work, why would it work in a USB card reader? I'm not versed in computer technology enough to understand if there would be a difference.

Thank you.

Good question. Didn't catch that. It may be that the SD slot in your computer isn't SDHC compatible. But a new card reader plugged into USB would be. How old is your computer?

It'a an HP running WIN XP: probably about five years old or maybe more. But, from your suggestion, I did some followup and learned more about those readers. I ordered one and I think, from all that I've since read, I think it will do the trick. Now, I'm a bit smarter and I thank you for that! I hope you get your points alright. I've never done this before... either!
