That's probably because on automatic it doesn't have a proper pin connection. That's the drawback of using adapters to get a lens to work that wasn't designed for the system. You should be able to use it on full manual, however. But that means adjusting the fstop, shutter speed and focus the old fashioned way.

After further investigation I found that the second menu under the settings (little gear symbol) there is a shutter lock that needs to be shut off. This, with the camera set to full manual and the fstop adjustments, and yes...focusing the "old school way" allows me to use my old lenses. So, yes the MD/MC adapters they sell at idigital on ebay work. I am very pleased with this feature of the a100, these lenses (for an old minolta x7a) have been given new life rather than sitting on the shelf gathering dust like they have for the last decade. Thanx for the reply though.

That's good to know, Duane. It's really a shame that Konica/Minolta pulled out of the market. Some of the cameras/lenses they made were pretty good. That SONY picked up the ball and ran with it is to their credit. And SONY will even repair those lenses should you need them to.
