How is the delay on this camera?

I am not a photographer. I don't need a camera with a lot of bells and whistles. What I need is to be able to catch the moment the way I used to with film. My daughter was in her first play today and I missed far too many beautiful shots because of that delay. I need something that can zoom into her ruby slippers from the top row and take it in the moment that it happens.
Any suggestions?

in digital slrs, shutter delay isn't an issue. however, getting into the habit of prefocusing and panning with the action will develop a sense of anticipation in you which will help you to nail that shot,
