It already does. Sony refers to it as Sony Super SteadyShot Image Stabilization. It's optically stabilized, which is even better. HOWEVER, unlike Canon and Nikon's image stabilization, which is applied to the lens optics, Sony's Super Steady Shot compensates for camera shake by moving the camera's sensor. The argument against applying image stabilization at the sensor is that different lenses - especially telephotos - require different image stabilization. So that's something to consider.

Yeah also consider that this means that EVERY lens you get will have stabilization which canon/nikon charge several hundred per lense for (but its finally getting cheaper due to competition, smaller cheaper technology). Many lenses are not even available as IS from Nikon/Canon as far as I know (like 28,50 prime, many macros).

Well, you do get what you pay for. But also, third party lens makers like SIGMA are creating some really great lenses for the Canon right now.
