Which camera should I buy --- the Nikon D-90 or the Sony Alpha 700?

This will be my everyday walkaround camera. I plan on buying good lenses and using the camera for sports shots. I don't care about the video on the D-90 --- only interested in still photos.

The Nikon D90 hands down. FAR superior optics. Legacy lens support for every Nikkor made in the last 50 years. Sony Alpha are just improved Minolta's, and you can do much better than that.

I agree with James. Purchase the Nikon D 90. Nikons are built to last and has been around for a long time. The lenses are stronger and have more variety with Nikorr. THe other advantage is if you purchase the D90 and want to upgrade all your lenses can come with you. Ease of use is also a big plus for Nikon cameras.

in my opinion you should see what camera is best for you. a lot of people get caught up in the name brand canon or nikon. also in my opinion for the same price any of sonys alpha's win hands down vs canon or nikon. i do agree with the lens issue but at the same time there is quite a bit of good minolta glass out there and with carl zeiss making glass for sony exclusively, not such a great argument. i do agree that the d90 is a great camera, i disagree with people discounting sony due to the name. same mentality as buying a 40 dollar tshirt that says nike on it. yeah you may like the color but what are you really buying? your photos are what people look at, not your gear.

D90 - for its ability to handle noise at higher ISO. Higher ISO would be used for indoor sports. However, if you would use it only for outdoors sports, during daylight, good lighting conditions, it doesn't really matter which camera you choose.
