SONY Will Repair for free

My camera was not exhibiting the problem described on Sony's site, but I called 1-866-703-7669 anyway to see if they would fix my camera for free. It has worked flawlessly for 2 years and suddenly started taking pictures that are overexposed... actually, half of the raster is composed of fixed-value horizontal lines (magenta). I described this to the support representative and he said it is a CCD failure and that my camera falls within the parameters used for the repair service. Before you give up and bash Sony as I almost did, call them. You may be pleasantly surprised.
