"Memory Stick Access" problem

when I turn on the camera "Memory Stick Access" appears in the viewfinder. I've bought new memory sticks, made sure they're seated properly, but still the message appears and I'm unable to take any photos.

Hi James, I can't format the memory stick. When I turn the Mode dial to SET UP , the "Memory Stick Access" note changes to "Memory Stick Error" and on the viewfinder there's a flashing black memory stick icon and flashing "C:13:01" accompanied by dinging from the camera

Try resetting your camera. This is a fairly easy procedure which involves either going into your setup menu and choosing "reset," or, removing the batteries for a few minutes. It may be that the firmware loading got corrupted and the camera just needs to be "rebooted," which is something that turning it on/off won't accomplish. But after which, you should have the camera reset to factory default settings.

Another tip is to go to Sony's website and look for firmware updates (under Customer Care). Download and install them.

If the problem persists, I have read about a socalled circuit board error which can cause this issue. A repair may be in the offing, so while you're at the Sony site, try and find a service advisory on a potential recall/repair.
