Nasir,

You seem to be describing several different problems here (LCD issues, battery light issues, and possible CCD sensor issues). I have a couple of questions for you, if you don't mind:

1. Does the distortion (zig-zag lines, strange colors, etc) appear on the finished photographs on the memory card/on your computer, or only on the viewfinder/camera LCD?

2. I'm not sure what you mean by the holographic metallic blue image. Can you be more specific?

I'm not sure if this applies to your particular camera, but it appears that Sony has issued a recall for certain models produced between 2002 and 2004. If your camera's manufacture date is prior to 2004, you might be eligible for a repair on Sony's dime. There is a message board thread here that details the recall and includes several users' success stories in getting their cameras fixed. If the problem description there matches your own, I suggest your contact Sony support. If not, please answer my above questions and I'll try to assist you further.

Wow it seems to be a quick resolution to my problem the images shown on the
thread seems to be same like mine.
To your question
1)the zigzag lines is on the screen when taking a pic but after taking the pic whn u display the pic from your memory the lines shows up for a moment on the pic and disppears from the image with the pic coming out as perfect shot.
2)by this i mean an image like a hologram or an infrared image.
I am expecting more from you, thanks a lot for your prompt answer.

Nasir,

If that is indeed your problem and if your camera was manufactured prior to the end of 2004, I would call Sony support as soon as possible. Could be a really easy, cheap fix.

My ex-girlfriend owned an F717 and I recall that when viewing photos on the camera's LCD screen, the pictures would load in a two-step sequence (fuzzy at first, then sharp), the way pictures on the internet sometimes load in phases. This doesn't really sound like your problem, but I figured I'd mention it anyway.

I honestly don't have a better answer for the zigzag lines and odd colors than to talk to Sony's support people or your local camera shop. If it's not covered under the recall we discussed above, it will probably cost you a substantial amount to get fixed. Though, since you say it's brand new, it might still be under warranty. I'm not sure if Sony's warranties are from time of purchase or time of manufacture. Again, that's something you'll want to discuss with Sony support.

Given that the camera is getting kind of old now and that there are similarly powerful cameras available for substantially less than the F717 originally cost (and possibly in the same ballpark as the repairs will cost), you might want to sell it for parts or throw it away and invest in something more current. I know that can be a very difficult choice, though, especially if this camera is brand new to you.

Best of luck.

I sent my DSC-F717 off to Laredo, Texas and got it back rather fast. It took longer for my camera to get there than it did to fix it. The issue with my camera was the CCD chip (part number: A1166947A), which was taken care of without any charges to me. It is a shame that it took a class action lawsuite to get Sony to recall products with the defective CCD chip.

Hi Neo
I sent my camera too. Same thing it took longer for the camera to reach its destination than to get it fixed.
My Camera is back I tried it today and found that the pictures look much sharper now, and I observed following new issues:
The lines on the images are still there when the picture is focused and taken.(NOT ON ALL PICTURES) After the picture is taken when I see it on the memory card the lines shows up for a moment and then clears leaving the picture as perfect as possible. Repeat View of the image is perfect.
When you move from viewing pictures from memory card
to photo mode it takes a while to go live. The blue screen
stays their at least for 5-10 seconds.
switching the to manual mode a message appears.
"manual focus invalid" (have not tried this before so do not
know if it also happened before the repair) Being a new user lot of functions are still I am unaware of.
Focusing an object from very near say 6-7 inches a red laser like dotted warning pops up on the image and the LCD
Pressing shutter realease button camera charge light blinks
and green dot appears same time on the LCD.
Anybody, please express your views about the above issues.
Thank you

PS I would like to know about handy & useful accessories
for the camera too.

Hey NASIR,
The "manual focus invalid" was something that happened before sending my camera in for repair (this seems normal, since it does not interfere with any of the functions I am aware of). My camera is still functioning pretty good. I got a wide angle lens, telephoto lens and a set of 3 filters for my camera as Christmas gifts. The macro lens (included with the wide angle lens) is awesome for those close up shots. The telephoto lens is superb for taking photographs from a distance. Having the different lenses has opened the door for more posibilities with my camera. I hope your camera is working well for you by now.

Nasir,
The wide angle lens is an Opteka High Definition 2, 58 mm, .45x AF. The telephoto lens is made by Digital Concepts, its a Digital Professional Lens, its 3X Telephoto 52 mm. The filters came as a set of 3; they're also made by Opteka. It is called a PRO Filter Kit, 1. UV Filter 2. PL Filter 3. FL-D Filter
I post a lot of my photos on myspace at http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=151900959
The photos taken after 2003 were taken with my DSC-F717.

Recently i found that my SONY DFC717 camera picture has a BLURR Image(ZigZag colors) and later BLANK IMAGE(BLACK) and wondered what went wrong, then i checked over the internet websites and found CCD chip failure for this model, so i immediately called SONY customer support and got the help and they sent me an UPS label in the email and i sent my camera and got repaired and received it today(took 2 weeks) and found no problems with the picture or what so ever. Thanks to SONY for the outstanding support.

http://www.sony.ca/view/434.htm Sony has extended the recall. It does not appear to have an expiration date. At no charge (only S&H)
